So, 2009 is nearly at an end
December 31, 2009
As I’m typing this, It is already at an end in a number of countries.
I’ve been putting off this, end of year, end of decade blog post for ages, mainly because I know I’ll just waffle inanely, and it won’t be constructive at all, but I feel a need to have to make one. I’m not making a best of the noughties list, etc etc, because I basically can’t be arsed. However, I will do some of my favourite things of 2009.
- Single of 2009 – Counterpoint / Delphic
- Album of 2009 – Miike Snow / Miike Snow
- Re-Release of 2009 – Ladies & Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space / Spiritualized
- Film of 2009 – Star Trek
- Gig of 2009 (UK) – Blur / Hyde Park
- Gig of 2009 (USA) – Super Furry Animals / Hoboken, NJ
- Sporting Event of 2009 (UK) – England vs Australia / Lords, London
- Sporting Event of 2009 (USA) – LA Angels @ NY Yankees / New York, NY
Now, I’ve got a runner up in most categories that I won’t bore you with. I have just randomly picked categories that sound exciting, and to make it seem like I have a life, hence me splitting Gig of 2009 and Sporting Event into 2 categories, as I went to NYC twice this year, and saw some great gigs, and great sporting events, so really I can’t leave them out of the running!
It’s been a good year for me really, with my social life been busy, meeting up with friends throughout the UK as I drove around for work, and two holidays. Work has been a bit shit, but with the economic crisis, I couldn’t expect everything in my life to be amazingly brilliant, but really 2009 has been a great year. I turned 30, and it’s definitely not gone downhill.
What have I got to look forward to in 2010. Probably much of the same, sporting events, gigs, holidays to New York City. As for work, well I’m hoping to get a new job sometime in the first half of the year.
Have I accomplished anything in 2009? Not really. I made the decision back in September to give up smoking, and got around to that in November, so that’s something. Other than that I’ve really just worked, and gone places. I’ve been lucky with work sending me to all corners of the UK, with Aberdeen been the furthest North, Exeter the furthest South West, Sittingbourne in the South East, and Southampton along the South Coast. Thrown in a few trips to Aberystwyth in Wales, and numerous trips up and down the M1, and only 1 car accident that I caused, which was my first ever, I’ve had a blast.
Am I making any resolutions for 2010? No. I can’t see a reason to, I did more than I wanted, I survived tough times with work cutting my hours down for 5 months of the year, things went so well, I really don’t feel a need. I’m just going to keep doing what I’ve been doing. Maybe one thing I’ll say, more random blog posts. If I set a target for monthly ones, I think that’s doable, and acceptable for a blog about my life.
So, here’s to 2009, I’ve really loved this year, and thanks to everyone who’s made it what it is.
