So, Record Store Day 2010 has just been and gone. I’ve spent plenty of money on wonderful limited edition vinyls and my love for the record store has been reignited. So the day has done exactly what it intends to do.
I’ve always been a sucker for punishment when it comes to limited edition records, and have a huge stash, but not really added to it over the past few years, and maybe, just maybe this years Record Store Day has changed that. I enjoyed getting up at 6am on Saturday Morning, and queueing up outside Crash Records in Leeds for just over 2 hours, with an amazing highlight of people queueing outside fucking Primark! Why they need to rush in to get the cheap jeans is beyond me, however, it made us all laugh in the queue a bit.
What did I buy? I did get the new Blur 7″ Single, (It does annoy me that people are now selling it for above £100 on ebay, but if people are stupid enough to buy it, then that’s their own choice right?).
Anyway, A full list of what I eventually ended up with
Fools Day / Blur
Paperback Writer / The Beatles
Spanish Sahara / Foals
Communications 1978 – 92 / Factory Records
Cut Your Hair – Grounded / Pavement
Plundered My Soul / Rolling Stones
Feel Good Hit Of The Summer / Queens Of The Stone Age
Don’t Look Down / Chapel Club
Last Day / Editors
Pow Wow / LCD Soundsystem
Mercy Seat / Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
White Flag / Gorillaz
Coming On Strong / Hot Chip
Siberian Brakes / MGMT
Yeah, I think that’s it. I didn’t get the Flaming Lips / Dark Side Of The Moon, but not to worry, as I’ve pre-ordered it from their website anyway, so fingers crossed that’ll get sent soon when the ash cloud disappears.
I also have my name down for 2 releases that were not delivered. I think I’ll blame the ash cloud or something like that, but Attack Decay Sustain Release / Simian Mobile Disco – LP reissue, along with Stone Roses / Stone Roses re re re re release, so fingers crossed I’ll get a phone call when they come in stock!
So, all in all I had a great day buying records, meeting people who loved music, and then propping up a bar drinking expensive beer. I’ve fallen back in love with my local record store now, and I know I’ll be back, I spotted a few items that are on my must have list!
